Destination: Tropical

“I’ve been thinking a little about this place lately.”

Roaming around with no place in mind isn’t all that unfamiliar to him these days. If he’s behind honest, the first few months of being the Captain of his own ship had been fun. He appreciated being able to go wherever he wanted, see whatever it was that he wanted to see, play in any sabacc game he heard about, drink the booze of many worlds and meet some new people. In some ways, it was everything he ever wanted and exactly what he’d hoped for.

Something was missing, though. A feeling that gnawed at him regularly without knowing exactly what it was.

”I’m heading to a warm, tropical climate and I think I’m gonna be on the planet for a couple of days. I’m wondering what what everybody in the nexus would pack, if they were going somewhere sunny.”

"Finish up and I'll tell you the whole story while we walk." And to do her part she does take that last bite of cake. Licked the fork clean and setting it aside. She tipped back the last of her caff and dabbed her lips one last time.

When he looked done she rose and smoothed her suit and readied to leave. The server returned to bring Leia a small slip of paper and wished them a good evening, the paper went into her pocket and she gestured to the direction of the door. "Shall we?"

"I asked you to join me for lunch, so naturally I paid." She shrugged and let it go at that.

When he returned she linked her arm through his on the way to the door. "Besides now you can cover next time and I've secured a second... outing." She still wasn't entirely sure this was a date, but whatever it was, it was nice.

The afternoon outside was fading quickly and the sunset was a pretty rosy hue just beginning to color the sky. Leia directed him from memory toward the park, she tired to quicken her steps to keep pace with him, short legs were really not going to keep up with longer ones very well.

"It was mostly a joke about ensuring I would see you again." She shrugged, she could make jokes, normally she was rather witty even, but that hadn't carried well. Possibly because she wasn't sure if it implied something or not.

The small kindness of his slowed stride was greatly appreciated and made it easier to keep pace with him. She directed him with gentle pulls to his arm to get him around this corner or up the next street and there was the park. A large, wide open expanse of flowers, grass and trees. They were arriving before dusk so everything was still well lighted.

"So why was a princess in a trash compactor. It was an escape gone a bit sideways." She was skirting details because she wasn't sure he needed to hear about them just now. "From a cell to a dead end corridor, I garbed one of my rescuers blasters and blew a hole in the bulkhead so we could escape from being pinned down. The wall panel covered a garbage shoot and we were all dumped into the compactor where the dianoga was. Things were tense for a bit." Compacting and what not.

Oh! The garbage chute was a really
wonderful idea. What an incredible
smell you've discovered! Let's get
out of here! Get away from there...

Vivid memories came back to her as she recalled the escape from the Death Star, she and Han had been at each other's throats from nearly the first moment they met. Seeing how the man she was walking with now had treated her she had to wonder if she'd misjudged his older self due to the circumstance. He was actually kind of sweet even, and this Han was not one she'd been prepared for, she knew he could be charming but she never thought it would be so appealing.

"I'll consider it a surprise then and not ask questions." He wouldn't have much to do after all to top lunch and a walk in the park, the bar was relatively low as far as activities went. And there was a bench they'd conveniently pivoted toward. The view was lovely, sun set in the distance, small bed of flowers ringing a great tree with huge branches off to the left and a rather nice view of the city proper off far to the right. It was mostly empty so they seemed to have the park almost to themselves.

"Maybe," She shrugged as she took at seat on the bench. "I think in my case I made more work for myself than was strictly necessary. I could have been a good little girl and gone to Courscant and been married off to some wealthy prince and one day rule somewhere. But I never had the disposition for that."

No reward is worth this.

Leia turned to regard him, always gifted with reading people she saw no deception in what he said, his faint brow crinkle of concern pass as she looked at him. "You really mean that." Not a question, but a statement, one which made her smile. And one which earned him a soft kiss on the cheek. "Thank you."

"A queen or king, this generation was Breha my mother. My father Bail was Prince consort and senator before I took his place at eighteen." Alderaan had a constitutional monarchy and the family to lead was voted in to office and could be replaced if they did not well serve the needs of the people. This was not a frequent event though as the Alderaani people tended to be of one mind on how their lives were to be left to learn and grow and only needing such guidance and interference as was necessary.

"The government was more caretaker and beholden to the people than it was a shepherd. I know of many governments that rule by military might but that was never our way. Little crime or violence, no military, no weapons. Peace and prosperity." It had been a jewel among the worlds of the old Republic. And she missed it so much her heart ached. Leia took a deep breath and shook her head. "Sorry, I'm sure you didn't want a lecture on galactic politics" Not even what the point of his comment was really, but it was so much a part of her early life that she fell into it naturally.

She did like the way he blushed though, and she was not at all uncomfortable with his arm across the back of the bench. "As for Princes, we were taken to be put on display. All young pretty eligible girls at around seventeen. We were supposed to dress up and parade around like some orobird mating display to find a husband." Her distaste of it was obvious from her sour expression. "Needless to say I didn't go, I didn't get married off and I don't regret that for a single moment."

That was more gracious than she might have expected, he didn't even accuse her of trying to bore him to death. She was warming to him quickly and was surprised at just how that was affecting her, she might have to consider there is more than just alcohol at work here.

"Then tell me something about you. That scar," Her eyes traced it, then a fingertip did the same. Odd line down his strong, angled chin."how did you get that?"

Se'd leaned in as he spoke, intently listening to his story. It felt nice the way his arm cradled around her shoulders. After tracing the scar her hand lowered to rest on her thigh, fingertips brushing his.

She knew he was a good pilot, any Han in any context never let anyone forget that. But the time form which he went from not being one to being one was far close with the man she sat next to and hearing him tell the tale was drawing her in.

Leia smirked at his unwillingness to take anything at another's pace, that rang true as well. They were not so different in that respect, only she had other concerns to monitor and had to sometimes keep herself in check.

"You what?" Why did it even surprise her that he'd steal a ship? He probably didn't even consider it stealing, one of those who believed in joy rides. She quieted again and let him continue. This was after all his story.

When his tale took a dangerous turn she gasped quietly, her hand moved to his thigh, just above the knee. An attempt at reassurance, or compassion or connection. Just something she felt was needed in hearing he had be so near death. Did he even realize how easily that story might have ended differently?

"I'm sorry, but I'm s glad you're alright." She smiled a little, brow still furrowed with concern. "Of all the scars I've seen it's one of the better ones. It adds character."

"I didn't say that." She answered quickly, that was so much like the Han she knew that she'd responded in kind, so she softened and continued. "But I think on you it looks somehow fitting. It suits you." It was handsome, and somewhat rakish. Her eyes had been on it once she started faltering her her response. There and his bottom lip, he had a very attractive chin too.

Leia pulled her gaze away and blinked rapidly. That was definitely not normal behavior for her, she hadn't felt drawn to anyone like that in a long time and hadn't found herself distracted contemplating the topography of a strong jaw perhaps ever.

"It's warm isn't, seems warm." And that was wonderfully unintelligent, from bad to worse. At least if she'd admitted to being taken with him she had some pride to fall back on. Now she looked like a fool and a silly girl. She hadn't been silly even when she was a girl.

"Corellia isn't a terribly warm place as I recall, is it?" Oh yes, do talk about the weather. Celly would be so proud.

He was going to think her a complete idiot or a fool. They might have been the same age but his life experience in dealing with attraction was years beyond hers and she felt ridiculous about it.

"Gray." She murmured, and would have remarked on the political standing of the planet as she knew it except she suddenly lost that ability. Warm shivers ran through her and a beguiling tender contact at her neck made her gasp. Not out of shock or surprise but a throatier version of the sound she'd made over chocolate.

Could he feel the way she'd reacted? He certainly had to have heard it. Now she had to measure a response. Her first inclination was to tell him to stop, she found no good excuse and it would have been token or feeble as it was. She wouldn't be refusing him because she wanted to, but because she was supposed to. Did that mean she did want him to?

Leia turned full back to face him, it was time to make a decision. She either had to stop things right here or who knows where they would go. She was attracted to him, gods she was, but she was a senator and a leader and she had duties back home. She had to be rational, she needed to think about what others needed her for. "I should," She swallowed hard, the last thing she wanted to do was leave, but if she stayed what would happen?

The sentence hung there, without completing as Leia's mind was turning over every rock on the guilt garden on why this was a bad idea. And in that moment of soul searching her eyes fell across that scar again, damn distracting thing. She should.

She should.

Leia leaned in and kissed him, not chaste, not sweetly, a kiss that was not what people thought of as a Princess' kiss.

Her life hadn’t been built around what she wanted, but rather about a life of service to her people. She hadn’t had to think in those terms, aside from childhood moments of being a brat, which ended by fourteen. Her education began and though she might not have always been the most poised or composed of princesses, she was still living a life to ensure others were taken care of.

To face the choice of an action in a moment that was separated out from her life back home was a chance to steal time. Here she could make those choices and take chances she might not otherwise. Apparently that had paid off.

Han took her in his grasp and kissed her and it was unlike any kiss she’d had. Hurried rushes of affection in the moonlight pools didn’t compare to this. She felt everything, the strong press of the hard line of his jaw, the slight edge of stubble from late in the day, his grip on her firm and grounding that this was indeed real. A sigh passed into the kiss and Leia dared to be a bit more brave, her hands cupping his face as she returned the kiss.

She faltered a little at first, the intensity of it was all new for her, but it was also so exciting. She tried to match him in kind, returning the kiss she got. It was definitely warm now.

When he broke the kiss she'd moved forward as if trying to prolong it. Once she realized she needed to breathe she understood the reprieve. Her breath, when it came, was shaky. As if all the butterflies in her stomach had moved to her lungs. She swallowed and leaned into that contact, letting her hands slide down to rest against his chest.

"They did not kiss like that in the palace." She whispered, her voice slightly thready. She couldn't recall any single act stirring her so much, well the assault on the Death Star had left her feeling elated and triumphant. Having Luke and Han return safe had been near intoxicating after the thought of losing them both to the fight.

Those experiences had not been romantic in nature and frankly Leia had thought she had little use for romance and would be satisfied if she made an advantageous political marriage. The fact that she could feel her body tingling just from a kiss made her want to rethinking her view on the merits of a passionate attraction.

She was studying it, all of it. His movements, the way his skin felt against hers. She liked how his hands felt holding her, like they knew where to rest and how to grip to show engagement without possession. He must have had plenty of girls and women over the years that he's kissed. While the thought didn't bother her, he was fully entitled to any life before or after he met her, She did feel that she was, in this arena, the novice.

Raal had been handsome, he'd been gallant and in their way he'd been exciting for royal children. But no, he'd never kissed like that, nor held her the way Han did.

"It's a new thing." That meant it took some processing. And she was nothing if not adaptable. It was what made her so good at what she did, and her natural leadership qualities.

"No, he never kissed like that." She laughed. "I guess you can be less jealous then." Admission of her lack of experience in that statement, at least a bit. She felt somewhat inadequate, but excited. Here was something she'd never imagined wanting much of, but everyone else knew that romantic and more interaction were this enjoyable. She felt like she'd spent a life time eating bland food only to now be given a taste of a world of spices. How could she not be nervous and hungry?

She was coming down off the moment now, still pleasantly glowing with it but at least enough that she could take in the world around her and she eased back a bit. She watched him and his reactions. He seemed pleased about something, that slight smile those beautiful eyes, and that distracting scar, it was no wonder she'd been off balance.

She'd said more about her romantic life than intended and yet it was all true. If she boasted or bragged and was called out on it how would she looked then? No, far easier to just be honest about it, she could use deception when necessary but that was for far greater times of need and importance than her pride.

His words drew at first a surprised look from her and than a more canny one. "Do we? A spark. They tend to ignite things don't they?" As she spoke she traced the line of his scar again with a finger tip. "Sounds dangerous."
