Destination: Tropical
“I’ve been thinking a little about this place lately.”
Roaming around with no place in mind isn’t all that unfamiliar to him these days. If he’s behind honest, the first few months of being the Captain of his own ship had been fun. He appreciated being able to go wherever he wanted, see whatever it was that he wanted to see, play in any sabacc game he heard about, drink the booze of many worlds and meet some new people. In some ways, it was everything he ever wanted and exactly what he’d hoped for.
Something was missing, though. A feeling that gnawed at him regularly without knowing exactly what it was.
”I’m heading to a warm, tropical climate and I think I’m gonna be on the planet for a couple of days. I’m wondering what what everybody in the nexus would pack, if they were going somewhere sunny.”

Now however he would need to allow her a moment, as his example was a true case here but, there was another issue. Leia took a deep pull of her drink and lowered her glass. "Well, for one, my name is Leia Organa, of the House of Organa. Princess of Alderaan." Cards were on the table now, as was a quickly emptied glass which she'd finished after making that quite possibly shocking statement.

Leia of Alderaan. Princess Leia Organa. Now that she mentioned her full name and her title, he recalled hearing of her before. Does that mean he should treat her differently? Wouldn’t she have told him first if she really wanted to be doted upon like royalty?
He’s not even sure he knows how someone is supposed to treat a princess anyway.
“I’m just Han.” He says, reaching for the bottle to top them both off again. “Though, I may or may not have started a rumor among my friends that I was a missing prince. That was kind of funny.”
no subject
"I think I prefer just Han, it suits you." She raised her glass again and smiled. "To being whatever it is you want to be." Here in the Nexus that seemed like a true possibility.

It’s about all he can think to say. Make light of it. Cover up the little bit of butterflies he got when the enormity of having drinks with the Princess of Alderaan finally started to sink in. He was just a pilot and military wash-out from the slums.
“Don’t let anything hold you back.” He says as he reached to tap his glass lightly with hers. “Cheers.”
no subject
Now that the truth was out and he wasn't running or mocking her she could relax. "Oh, which brings me back to my original comment. You'd asked for a story. I think another glass and I could be persuaded to tell the whole infamous tale."
no subject
He purses his lips and wondered how she’d take that observation while added a little more booze to their glasses. Even more than the hearty pour they had started with. Han wouldn’t say his nerves were getting the best of him, but his stomach had felt in fewer knots when he was trying to escape The Maw.
“I have to admit, I am still looking forward to that.

Another hearty swig of the potent drink and Leia exhaled with a rush. It was not a delicate dinner wine and her cheeks were taking a slight pink from it. "I was sixteen and had a mad idea that I was in love with a boy. I'd been disruptive and it had gotten me grounded but that wasn't about to stop me." Oh headstrong Leia, even at that age. She grinned with the memory, perhaps a touch self consciously. "He'd invited me out you see, to swim under the moon. Water so warm it felt like a bath. I knew the place and I knew a dozen ways to sneak out of the palace." She paused there, he might have questions or perhaps she wanted to compose her tale a bit more before going on. Except for the hook. "The invitation was very specific about what was not going to be worn."
no subject
Or what it would have looked like with her now, anyway, he hadn’t known what she looked like four years ago.
Han shakes his head. It was easy enough to play it off as a disbelieving shake at how scandalous the young princess was willing to behave, but really it was to make himself stop thinking about Leia being naked. His own cheeks a little red now too.
“I’m going to fully admit to being jealous of whomever that person was.” He then, asked what he thought was the most important question. “Did you get caught?”
no subject
"We were caught, well he was anyway. I wound up having to hide in the water for hours until I could sneak back and find my clothes. Fortunately a friend who I had said staying with me had explained I was angry and my parents left it at that. They hadn't pressed to see me thinking I would cool down in my own time." Winter had always been a brilliant strategist even back then. "I was able to get back inside, and we stayed up for hours talking about how he kissed and how exciting it all was." And then, within days after that she wouldn't see him again, she might not have been caught out but there were certainly suspicions.

It sounded like something that he could have done with Qi’ra — if they had somewhere they could have gone swimming alone together. The two of them had managed to take just about every moment they could spare with each other when Lady Proxima wasn’t occupying them with tasks.
Han takes another long sip from his glass. At sixteen he had been sleeping beside his then girlfriend every day and doing things that weren’t particularly legal at night. He wasn’t in the habit of divulging too much about himself, but the thought was suddenly crossing his mind that she may already know the things he might feel comfortable saying. Because she knew another Han Solo.
“I know this is a weird question, but I kinda wonder what you might already know about me.”
no subject
"Smuggler by trade, he doesn't talk about his past much. Actually we don't talk much at all." It was more bickering most of the time. "The older Han was very different, but I don't think he is from the same sort of time or place I am. It's just different. He was charming, a good dancer, apparently happy and settled in his life."
no subject
“I never though I’d be old.” He says with a smirk and a shrug. “Much less old and happy.” That he was so quick to admit that might say more about the way he grew up and how he saw his life unfolding than an anecdote about his teenage years ever could. Even in his early twenties, Han Solo must have not thought he wouldn’t live a very long life. Was it sad that he thought that? He wouldn’t say so if he was asked. He’d call it ‘pragmatic’.
“Does being a princess put you in a position to meet lots of smugglers, Leia?” He teased gently. “And that ship he loves. It’s a YT-1300, right?”
no subject
"I've learned it pays to have all sorts of friends. Generals, Jedi, smugglers... What names a person is given has never seemed to matter as much as what they do." She shrugged and sipped her drink, and again. She'd been doing a lot of talking hadn't she? The lubricant might be working too well. "That's the one, he calls it the Millennium Falcon and he'll tell anyone will to listen how wonderful she is."
no subject
He was always so quick to dismiss a warning when a beautiful woman was involved. He runs his finger around the rim of his glass. He can’t help but smile a very bright and genuine smile when she reveals that the ship he loves is the Millennium Falcon. He still has it in about ten years, which, is news that he’s happy to hear.
“Cards.” Han blurts out. Whether it was the booze or just a want to share something he’s so proud of is anybody’s guess. He finishes what’s left in his glass before expanding the thought.
“The previous owner and I got into a high stakes sabacc game for it. Two, actually, because I just couldn’t get the Falcon out of my mind and I didn’t win it on the first try. He had cards up he sleeve to make sure he’d beat me.”
no subject
“I was never good at that game, I tried it because it drove my aunts to distress.” She laughed lightly and emptied her glass, thinking it might be a good time to slow her pace with the drinks. “They hated anything that wasn’t proper, so one day I laid out a deck of cards and started playing. You would have thought I’d pulled a vibroaxe on them the way they scrambled and gasped.” And then she got grounded, again.
“This is a good drink, it must be. I haven’t told stories like this in a long time.” Or ever in the case of her skinny dipping escapades.
no subject
He shakes the thought away and notices how quickly he’s already drank his second glass. The Princess, whom he pegged for a lightweight, has been able to go glass for glass with him so far. It’s not surprising to him that he likes hearing Leia talk about her past more than he likes talking about his own.
She’ll feel the toe of his boot nudge against hers. At first it seems like it could have been an accident, but the way his foot stays, maybe not.
“I think I like the fact that you’ve got a rebellious side, Princess Leia. If you ever want to get better at playing cards, I’m your man.”
At her mention of the drink, he simply eyes the bottle and casts a look back at her. The question asked with his eyes. Another?
no subject
“Yes, but people aren’t always willing to tell it, are they?” She looked levelly at him. Everyone has some secrets, it’s human nature. And sometimes they lie, that’s self-preservation.
Something tapped her foot and she assumed he was needing to stretch his legs, something apparently tall people needed to do as she so often recalled seeing Han lounging out in the Falcon; all legs and arms and smug smile. This man was a muted version of that, he had confidence to be sure but-That foot was not moving. It was definitively not moving. Was that a flirtation? If it wasn’t why did her cheeks flush, the drinks? Of course, the drinks.
“Is that so? You could teach me to play cards?” Now she leaned in, by action of shorter legs it meant her shoe dragged against his slightly in the change of position. Her elbow propped to the table and her chin came to rest in her palm. “You’d be my man?” That was too far, entirely too far. It was a mistake as soon as the words left her lips and yet all she could do was smile a sly little smile. Her free hand extended a finger to tap her glass, acceptance of another drink.
no subject
“You give me a chance of that?” Being her man, as she had put it. “And I promise you, I would make the best of it, Leia.”
Han’s lopsided grin reappeared as he grabbed the bottle and as he started slow pouring, he says playfully ...
“Tell me when.”
no subject
“Chance? You seem to like chance and luck.” Leia looked deeper into his eyes, less shadowed and guarded than the man she knew. “How do you know I’m not a bad bet?” His older self would certainly tell him so.
She let him pour until the glass was nearly full and then she tapped the glass again with her finger. “I’d think people should decide when together, don’t you?”
The princess was probably going to hate herself in the morning, but for now the firelight, the warmth, the drinks and the company were conspiring against her better judgment.
no subject
“I’ve got a hunch.”
He almost tipped the bottle upwards thinking she forgot to tell him to stop, but he sees her signal come. A very full third glass for Leia let’s him know that she probably wasn’t messing around when she told him stories about being a free-spirit. Or that she felt a need to keep things at a level of decorum just because of who she happened to be related to.
“That’s the only way two people should do it.” He rubs his foot against hers and asks, “do you have any plans for later?”
no subject
She pulled the glass back with her free had and sipped, either she was feeling the effects or the drink had smoothed out since they'd been sitting there. She hardly felt the bite of it at all which made a second gulp go down all the smoother.
The foot rub got a grin out of her and she didn't pull away. "I think I ought to eat something, after this." She held up her glass which had somehow gotten half empty and blinked at it. "I might be a bit late on that now." Hadn't that been her intention to start with? Food and talk? She'd been so involved in their conversation that she'd allowed herself to let down her guard and now she had to recover some. She waved down a passing server and asked for the menu. "After eating though, I don't have any set plans at all."
no subject
“We should eat.” Han says agreeably. Not wanting either of them to become too drunk. “Then, if we’re still having fun, we can go on to the next thing.”
Han picks up a minute for himself and has his mind made up within about a minute. He’s been to a couple of nexus restaurants and knows generally what he likes and what he doesn’t like. He’s going to get a barbecue sandwich and chips because he’s never tried barbecue anything he didn’t like.
no subject
"I like you." She wasn't aware she was going to say it until she did, but it was true. there were old sayings of truth spoken while imbibing and perhaps that was the case here, or just that she felt it was safe to tell him so. Rather than swell on it she pushed ahead. "What would you like to do after?" There were parks and museums she thought she remembered, an array of local sights to see, some games though she wasn't sure she understood bowling even after it had been explained to her.
no subject
It worried him how quickly he felt drawn to Leia and how badly he wanted to get her better. Even though he had loved someone very much, it had developed over years of time spent to together. This felt like he had been hit by a lightning bolt and fast as they were moving — drinks and food to what are you doing later — still felt like he was crawling his way though getting to know her.
“I still feel jealous of the person who got to have a midnight swim with you.” He says with enough of a smirk to play it off like he was kidding, but you better believe he’s paying very close attention to her response. “I’d like to do something where we can still talk. Whether that’s bar hopping, finding something to do or just going somewhere that we can extend the conversation is fine with me.”
no subject
"Do you?" It was hard to keep her tone from fishing a little on that. She was clearly pleased by the way she was trying hard not to appear as though she was. "I'd like that too, somewhere quiet maybe. I've heard there are some spectacular views to be had here." And watching a sunset with him sounded appealing.
